Tasting Notes:

This bourbon was created using grains sourced from heritage family farm - Batey Farms near Murfresssboro, TN. The grains were mashed and cooked in our old modified Groen steam kettle and then fermented for six days in our 350 gallon fermenter. Next, the beer was twice distilled with an initial stripping run which collected 50 gallons of first pass distillate. Two batches were produced in this way and then the distillates were combined for the second distillation - the spirit run.

Thomas Young Dark Rye Whiskey

Leather and smoke, spice and cocoa, warmth and oaK
The inspiration for this bold spirit goes back to Founder and Master Distiller Bill Lee's roots in Bledsoe County, Tennessee. In the 1930, this rural county was essentially the Wild West with the highest per capita murder rate and one of the lowest per crime conviction rate in the state. Lee is a relative of many of the principal figures from this tumultuous history.
Thomas Young Dark Rye Whiskey is specifically named after T. Y. Swafford, a Pikeville Sheriff in the 1930's. Sheriff Swafford was a complicated figure. He was beloved by many but feared as well for his ruthlessness in business dealings. T. Y. Swafford was Lee's great uncle.
This dark rye has a mash bill containing 11% ruby roasted rye grain. along with 61% regular rye and 28% yellow corn. The dark roasted color of the ruby rye turned the fermentation mash a dark as chocolate pudding. The corn sweetness provides a counterweight to the strong rye character for a delightful balance.
Thomas Young Dark Rye Whiskey was the inaugural whiskey for our Boxcar Whiskey program and we have been excited to share this fine spirit with our Boxcar Whiskey partners. Thomas Young Dark Rye is only available at the Gate 11 Distillery bottle shop.

Gate 11 Bourbon, Rye, Single Malt and Tennessee whiskeys continue to mature in our Boxcar barrelhouse with expected release dates in mid-2023. While we patiently await them, Gate 11 will continue to offer fine, sourced whiskeys to complement those we produce ourselves.
We want to offer a full range of whiskey experiences to customers who visit our distillery for cocktails or to buy bottles to take home.
Our current sourced offering is a 4 year old Rye Whiskey.
You are invited to enjoy this fine whiskey at Gate 11 cocktail bars in an Old Fashioned, Manhattan, Sazerac or other cocktail of your choice. You may enjoy a straight of this whiskey in a Glencairn sniffer or on the rocks!
We also encourage you to take home a bottle to hone your own whiskey mixology skills.

Ross + Mcclatchey / single malt whiskey

Gate 11 is proud to announce – Ross + McClatchey Single Malt Whiskey. Our take on the fine whiskies from Scotland and Ireland – this whiskey is fermented from all Tennessee grains, distilled in our custom-built pot still and barrel-aged in our Boxcar barrelhouse
Named after two great-grandfathers of our Founder and Distiller, Bill Lee, this unique whiskey has a bold, stand-alone aroma and taste that hearken back to the Scottish traditions of these early Tennessee settlers. This deep-hued spirit uses a mash bill that is 83% malted barley and 17% rye. The spirits were barreled at 121 proof and aged for about two years.
Why a single malt whiskey? Simple answer is that we love single malt Scotch and Irish whiskies. Look for Ross + McClatchey Single Malt Whiskey to become one of our signature releases along with other whiskeys yet to come. Our 2021 release of Ross + McClatchey was awarded a Bronze Medal at the American Craft Spirits Association Spirits Competition.
Our Ross + McClatchey is currently sold out. Look for an announcement in the coming months for the expected Fall 2023 release. As before, this special whiskey will be available at our retail shop only. Ross + McClatchey Single Malt Whiskey comes in a 375 ml bottle.
